Did you know that April is Stress Awareness Month? Like stress, it’s nothing new – this event that has been held every April since 1992. Of course stress is something that affects us all year round but by focusing on it and holding events like this, we can help to raise awareness of the causes and cures for the modern stress epidemic.
Research has shown that stress, along with anxiety and depression, currently account for 51% of all work-related illness in the UK, so it is essential that people know how to manage stress at work. No matter their role, business size or sector, everyone can experience stress, and employers have a legal duty to protect their employees from it.
Stress and conflict in the workplace hurt everybody – not just those involved. Time off sick, decreased productivity and efficiency, higher staff turnover and an unpleasant working environment can really hit your business where it hurts. Some people worry that they don’t have time to complete anything other than mandatory training as they have too much work to do, but by taking time to understand mental health and the causes of stress, you are actually working towards developing a healthier and happier workplace culture and exercising a duty of care over your employees.
To mark stress awareness month – and beyond – we’ve got a special 25% discount running throughout April and May on these four courses:
- Conflict management
- Mental health awareness
- Understanding Stress
- Stress Management
The Stress Management Society, who run Stress Awareness month have a great website full of useful info about spotting the signs of stress and how to address them. If you think you know someone who could benefit from one of our short courses, here are some tips for spotting workplace stress in individuals:
- An extroverted colleague becomes withdrawn
- They are acting out of character
- They become more accident prone
- They become aggressive or short-tempered
- They experience a dramatic change in weight (up or down)
Perhaps even a combination of these things? Once you have identified a problem it is important to handle it sensitively and confidentially and this is where a short course (or even one of our CMI-accredited leadership training courses) can help you to handle the situation successfully. Here’s what’s on offer this month:
